The face behind the words

I've been a full-time translator since 2011, making it my business to craft translations that don't sound like translations.

Based on the beautiful Cambridgeshire–Suffolk border, I use my translation experience and subject matter knowledge to help clients from the UK, Europe and beyond break down language barriers.

My language-learning story

The embarrassing clue that a life in languages beckoned? Asking Father Christmas for an etymological dictionary when I was 10 years old.

Since then, besides learning how to actually pronounce 'etymological', I've studied French, Spanish, Italian and Romanian and racked up various language qualifications and accreditations:

And I'm pleased to say that my collection of language-related books continues to grow each Christmas.

My specialisms

My main area of specialisation is legal translation.

It's something I was initially drawn to during my master's degree, which included weekly law lectures alongside in-depth introductions to the EU and UN.

Building on this solid grounding, I've built up millions of words worth of experience translating everything from contracts to legislation and even evidence for court cases.

To bolster my legal knowledge, I focus heavily on this field in my continuous professional development – from attending specialist training courses to spending countless hours researching terminology and creating bilingual glossaries for each project I work on.

What does a reviser have in common with a legal translator? Being picky with words!

Having spent years studying and working with languages, I'm well versed in what it takes to tidy up a text. That's why clients regularly seek me out to check through other translators' work and put the finishing touches to their documents.

Alongside my membership of professional translation associations, I'm also a member of the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders. Their training courses help me to keep my editing skills up to date and give me a fresh perspective on writing and editing from outside the translation industry.
